BUILDING RESILIENCE

Parenting Resource 02 – Building Resilience

Building resilience isn’t easy, not for children OR for us parents – we often want to jump right in and fix everything!

Unfortunately, life isn’t always soft, kind or easy, even for our kids. They will face challenges regularly.

However, as a parent one thing we can do to help our kids build resilience is to step aside (not away) when our kids face a problem.

We can be there to listen and encourage, to foster resilience, we must resist the urge to fix everything.

What is the difference between being a coach and comforter, and someone who always steps in to fix every problem for their child?

Think of an example when you have stepped in to fix a problem for you child. Brainstorm some ways you could approach this next time around.

Step aside – not away .
